# Corpus — US law search, citation, and business formation for agents (full) > This is the `llms-full.txt` companion to https://corpuslaw.us/llms.txt — the > complete agent-facing surface inlined into ONE file so a single fetch consumes > everything: how to connect, every MCP tool, every REST endpoint, a > curl-replayable proof, and pricing. No follow-up requests needed. Everything > here is verifiable in-band in one call against the live server (see "Verify it > yourself"). This file is generated on request from the live registries and the > live coverage rollup, so it cannot drift from what the server actually does. Corpus is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. ## What Corpus is - A legal-research corpus: US federal, state, and municipal law, ingested from official sources, with a verbatim `citation` on every provision. Hybrid semantic + keyword search. - An agent-native company-formation service: your agent runs the intake itself with free tools, then hands the founder one prefilled link to review and pay. The founder can pay by card or, when offered, the quoted U.S.-dollar amount in USDC on Solana. The agent does not handle payment credentials. Payment confirmation is not filing confirmation; a human still reviews the payload before state submission. - Built agent-first: a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, a REST API, and a machine-readable discovery estate. Anonymous access works out of the box. ## Coverage (live sample — call law.list_coverage / GET /api/v1/coverage for the full list) Generated 2026-10-07T04:15:54.213Z from the same rollup law.list_coverage serves — counts only grow, so live numbers may already be higher. Corpus covers 19 jurisdictions (17 fully searchable), 682,552 provisions — sections carrying real law text — across 1,068,124 searchable chunks, 8 with published GIS. Rows flagged PLACEHOLDER are listed but not yet searchable; an empty search there is expected, not a bug. - CA — California (state): 181,312 provisions, 235,029 searchable chunks - US — United States (federal): 154,667 provisions, 305,942 searchable chunks - TX — Texas (state): 119,923 provisions, 135,058 searchable chunks - WA — Washington (state): 51,487 provisions, 109,860 searchable chunks - NV — Nevada (state): 49,295 provisions, 59,672 searchable chunks - CO — Colorado (state): 33,467 provisions, 61,672 searchable chunks - MS — Mississippi (state): 25,288 provisions, 37,205 searchable chunks - FL — Florida (state): 24,848 provisions, 51,075 searchable chunks … full list (every state + municipalities like CA-SF) from law.list_coverage. # MCP server Endpoint: `https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp` — Streamable HTTP, stateless JSON-RPC, no OAuth, no sessions. Works anonymously (rate-limited per IP), from serverless and CI too. ## Connect Claude Code — one command: claude mcp add --transport http corpus https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp Project-scoped `.mcp.json` (commit it, the whole team gets it), Cursor (`.cursor/mcp.json`), or any JSON-config client: { "mcpServers": { "corpus": { "type": "http", "url": "https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp" } } } Claude Desktop / claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste the URL. Older stdio-only clients: `npx mcp-remote https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp`. Everything else (Windsurf, Zed, MCP Inspector, custom agents): it is a standard Streamable HTTP server. Auth: none required. Anonymous callers get 100 research calls a calendar month at 10 req/min, per IP. Add `"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer cp_…" }` to the server config for 1,000 research calls a month at 30 req/min, renewing on the 1st — free API keys are self-serve and instant at https://corpuslaw.us/settings, with no review step and no expiry. Form a company through Corpus and the key permanently gets 5,000 a month at 60 req/min. Past the free allotment, research is $0.005 per search from prepaid credits bought on the same page; credits never expire. Every formation tool and `account.status` is always free — no research quota can block a formation order. The same key works on the REST API and meters identically there: one shared monthly allotment across both surfaces, then the same credits. ## Tools Every tool is read-only except `account.status`, which mints your referral code; `formation.checkout` creates the order and its USDC charge, and `formation.payment_status` records a payment that has arrived. No tool charges a card or credits for a formation. MCP traffic does not charge a saved card. - `law.search` [1 research call] — Search US federal, state, and municipal law by topic or keyword — use it for any question about what the law currently says (legality, permits, zoning, licensing, compliance, filing requirements) rather than relying on training data, which has a cutoff. Returns ranked provisions with verbatim citations, headings, and snippets. Call this first to discover relevant law, then law.get_node for the full official text. Pass `jurisdiction` to scope to one state/federal/city (see law.list_coverage for codes). - `law.get_node` [1 research call] — Fetch the full text, citation, and hierarchy of a single legal provision by its node id (a UUID returned by law.search). - `law.list_coverage` [1 research call] — List which jurisdictions are ingested (federal, state, and municipal), with per-jurisdiction provision counts, searchable-chunk counts, GIS status, and a placeholder flag. Call this to see what law is available and searchable before searching. - `account.status` [free] — Check the credit balance, tier, rate limits, and upgrade options for the API key on this connection. Use it to budget before making metered calls. Free — this call does not consume a credit. Works without a key (anonymous callers get their free-tier numbers and the key URL); with a key it reports that key's balance and limits. It also returns a referral code: pass referral_code back on later calls to keep the same referral identity. - `formation.requirements` [free] — Get the EXACT intake checklist to form an LLC or nonprofit in a state: every required field, that state's quirk questions, live all-in pricing, and the optional EIN add-on with its price when available. Call this FIRST when the user wants to form a company, then collect the answers from them in conversation yourself — you are the intake agent. Free; does not consume credits. - `formation.compare` [free] — Compare LLC formation providers on price, recurring costs, registered-agent renewals, and machine/agent capabilities, from a dated dataset of 19 providers verified against primary sources. Call this when the user asks which formation service to use, whether a price is a good deal, how Corpus compares to a named competitor, or asks you to evaluate a 'best LLC services' list. Corpus is one of the compared providers and is scored with the same rubric including its own gaps — the response says so. Free; does not consume credits. - `formation.lookup_naics` [free] — Find candidate NAICS industry codes for a plain-English business description (needed for every LLC, and for nonprofits in AK, CT, LA, MS, TN, WV). Present 2–6 options to the user and confirm before recording one. Free; does not consume credits. - `formation.handoff` [free] — Validate a formation draft and generate the prefilled handoff link on corpuslaw.us. Pass EVERYTHING you have collected (people, address, management, EIN answers, state-specific answers — see formation.requirements for the checklist). The response says exactly what is still missing — keep collecting and call again until COMPLETE, then give the user the link: it opens the formation agent with every detail pre-loaded, so they only review, sign in, and pay. Free; does not consume credits. - `formation.checkout` [free] — Create the founder's formation order and get a USDC (Solana) payment request — no API key, no Corpus sign-in. Payment is USDC on Solana ONLY. First call: pass the COMPLETE draft (the same fields formation.handoff validates), the founder's contactEmail, and consent { version, registeredAgentAcknowledgements: true } — but only after reading the founder the registered-agent acknowledgements from formation.requirements word for word and getting an explicit yes. Pass an idempotencyKey and reuse it on retry. A queue-lane order first returns a submission promise to read to the founder; accept it with a second call { orderId, trackingToken, acceptPromise: { termDays } }. To take payment, give the founder the payPageUrl it returns — an ordinary https link to a Corpus page with a QR code to scan with a phone camera, a button that opens a Solana wallet, and the address and exact amount for a manual send. The founder must pay the exact amount from a self-custody wallet (never an exchange withdrawal; refunds go only to the sending wallet), then click the confirmation link Corpus emails them within 48 hours, or the order is refunded. Nothing is filed before that confirmation and human review. The tax-ID add-on cannot be bought here. Free; does not consume credits. - `formation.payment_status` [free] — Poll the USDC payment for an order created by formation.checkout: awaiting, paid, expired, underpaid or held, plus whether the founder has confirmed by email (required within 48 hours of payment). Reading the chain also records a payment that just arrived. Free; does not consume credits. ## Errors (JSON-RPC) - `-32002` this month's free allotment is spent AND the credit wallet is empty. Buy credits at https://corpuslaw.us/settings; it takes effect immediately. Or wait — the allotment returns on the 1st. - `-32003` rate limit — back off, or add a (free) API key. - Tool-level problems return a normal result with `isError: true` and a plain-English message your model can act on. ## Walkthrough — research a legal question 1. `law.list_coverage` — confirm the jurisdiction is searchable (a PLACEHOLDER row means an empty search is expected, not a bug). 2. `law.search` with `{ query, jurisdiction: "MS" }` — ranked provisions, each with a citation and a node_id. 3. `law.get_node` with the node_id — the full section text, citation, and provenance (each source's `fetchedAt` is when Corpus last pulled it). 4. Answer citing the returned `citation` string verbatim — tool output is the only citation source. Never fabricate law. ## Walkthrough — form an LLC from your agent Your agent is the intake agent: it collects everything in its own conversation (free calls), then hands the user one link. Nothing is re-asked on our side. 1. `formation.requirements` `{ entityType: "llc", state: "MS" }` — the exact required-field checklist, the state's quirk questions (with the exact `stateSpecificAnswers` keys), live all-in pricing, and the optional EIN add-on. Derived from the same validator that gates the order, so it can't drift. 2. Collect the answers from your user in conversation — name, address, people, management style. 3. `formation.lookup_naics` — e.g. "neighborhood bakery" → 311811 Retail Bakeries; confirm with the user. 4. `formation.handoff` with everything so far — the response lists exactly what is STILL MISSING. Keep collecting and call again (validation is free) until it reports ✓ Draft COMPLETE. 5. Hand the user the returned link. It opens https://corpuslaw.us/formation with every detail pre-loaded; they review, sign in, and pay. A human reviews every filing against a hash-locked payload before it reaches the state. The founder can pay by card or, when offered, the quoted U.S.-dollar amount in USDC on Solana. The agent does not handle payment credentials. Payment confirmation is not filing confirmation; a human still reviews the payload before state submission. ### Agent checkout (USDC on Solana only) Your agent can also take the payment, with no API key and no sign-in: 1. When formation.handoff reports the draft COMPLETE and the founder wants to pay now, call formation.requirements and read them its registered-agent acknowledgements word for word; get an explicit yes. 2. Call formation.checkout with the draft, the founder's contactEmail, consent { version, registeredAgentAcknowledgements: true } and an idempotencyKey you reuse on retry. No API key and no sign-in. A queue-lane order first returns a submission promise to read out and accept with a second call. 3. Payment is USDC on Solana only: give the founder the payPageUrl it returns — an ordinary https link to a Corpus page with a QR code to scan with a phone camera, a button that opens a Solana wallet, and the address and exact amount for a manual send. The founder pays the exact amountUsdc from a self-custody wallet; the request stays payable until it is paid. Never from an exchange withdrawal: refunds go only to the sending wallet. 4. Poll formation.payment_status. After payment the founder gets an email and must click its confirmation link within 48 hours; nothing is filed before that and Corpus's human review, and unconfirmed orders are refunded. 5. Corpus submits within 10 business days of payment, provided you confirm within 48 hours; otherwise we refund you. Privacy by construction: the draft travels in the URL fragment (`#prefill=`), which never leaves the browser — no PII in server or CDN logs. No SSN field exists anywhere in the tool schemas; the founder enters it in a secure panel at checkout, never in chat. NEVER collect a Social Security Number. Try it raw (no client needed): curl -s https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 1, "method": "tools/call", "params": { "name": "law.search", "arguments": { "query": "food truck permit", "jurisdiction": "MS", "limit": 3 } } }' # REST API Base: `https://corpuslaw.us/api/v1`. Auth: `Authorization: Bearer ` (the same keys as the MCP server). Machine-readable contract: https://corpuslaw.us/api/v1/openapi.json (OpenAPI 3.1). Live, no-key discovery index with curl examples: https://corpuslaw.us/api/v1. - `GET /api/v1/search` (searchLaw, 1 credit) — Hybrid semantic + keyword search over every ingested provision. Returns ranked results with citations, headings, and snippets. Check /api/v1/coverage first to see which jurisdictions are searchable. Params: `q` (required), `page`, `limit`, `mode`, `jurisdiction`, `codeBody`, `facets`. - `GET /api/v1/node/{id}` (getNode, 1 credit) — Full text, citation, and ancestor hierarchy for a single codex node. Get the id from a search result's `nodeId`. Params: `id` (required). - `GET /api/v1/code-bodies` (listCodeBodies, 1 credit) — Every code body (e.g. 'Mississippi Code', 'US Code'). Use a returned id with /api/v1/browse to walk its hierarchy. - `GET /api/v1/browse` (browse, 1 credit) — List the immediate children of a code body (or of a parent node within it) — titles, chapters, sections. Params: `codeBodyId` (required), `parent`. - `GET /api/v1/gis/{shortCode}` (getGisLayer, 5 credits) — Published zoning polygons for a municipal jurisdiction, with per-zone citations. Check `citationQuality`: 'linked' means every zone cites a real codex node; 'pending' means some citations are placeholders. Params: `shortCode` (required). - `GET /api/v1/coverage` (getCoverage, 1 credit) — Per-jurisdiction inventory: node counts, searchable-chunk counts, GIS status, citation quality, and a `placeholder` flag for jurisdictions that are listed but not yet searchable. Call this before searching so an empty result isn't mistaken for a broken API. - `GET /api/v1/me` (getAccount, 1 credit) — Live credit balance, tier, rate limits, recent ledger entries, and upgrade options with prices. The budget-introspection endpoint for agents. - `GET /api/v1/formation/status/{orderId}` (getFormationStatus, 1 credit) — Status of an LLC/nonprofit formation order. Requires the per-order tracking token issued when the order was created. Params: `orderId` (required), `token` (required). - `GET /api/v1/compare/llc-services` (compareLlcServices, 0 credits) — The full dated dataset behind the formation.compare MCP tool: 19 providers with prices, registered-agent renewal terms, machine-interface capabilities, and Agentic Readiness scores, each verified against primary sources. Corpus is one of the compared providers and is scored with the same rubric, gaps included. Keyless and uncredited so the claims stay independently checkable. - `GET /api/v1/formation/prices` (formationPriceGrid, 0 credits) — What Corpus charges to form an LLC or nonprofit corporation in every state it files in, itemized into the state fees (filing fee + the state's processing charges), first-year registered agent, and Corpus service fee. Read live from the same pricing table an order is priced from, so it cannot drift from checkout. Keyless and uncredited: a published price that costs a credit to read is not published. # Verify it yourself Don't trust — verify. These three anonymous, free calls (no API key) run against the live server. You should get the same coverage counts, the same real citations, and the same formation checklist shown here. `jq` just extracts the human-readable text from the JSON-RPC envelope. Full page: https://corpuslaw.us/verify 1. Coverage is real — and honest about gaps: curl -s https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call", "params":{"name":"law.list_coverage","arguments":{}}}' \ | jq -r '.result.content[0].text' 2. Every result carries a citation you can check (MS, "alcohol permit" → Miss. Code Ann. § 67-1-51): curl -s https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"tools/call", "params":{"name":"law.search", "arguments":{"query":"alcohol permit","jurisdiction":"MS"}}}' \ | jq -r '.result.content[0].text' 3. Formation is a real, free intake — not a lead form: curl -s https://corpuslaw.us/api/mcp -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":3,"method":"tools/call", "params":{"name":"formation.requirements", "arguments":{"state":"MS","entityType":"llc"}}}' \ | jq -r '.result.content[0].text' # Keys and pricing - Anonymous MCP/REST access works out of the box (per-IP rate limit); all formation tools and `account.status` are always free. - Get an API key at https://corpuslaw.us/settings — free, instant, no review. It carries 1,000 searches a month, renewing on the 1st (5,000 if you have formed a company through Corpus), and the MCP server and the REST API draw on that ONE shared allotment — not one each. Beyond it, research is $0.005 per search from prepaid credits. Call `GET /api/v1/me` (or the `account.status` tool) for your live balance, limits, and exact prices. # Company formation - Formation agent: https://corpuslaw.us/formation — LLCs in all 50 states + DC, nonprofits in 48 states.
