in effect§ 397 Discharge of adverse claims.
Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 5105 and 5125 or the Civil Code of the State or California, whenever any payment of benefits or refund is made by the system to or on account of a member, such payment shall fully discharge this system from all adverse claims, thereto unless, before such payment or refund is made, the retirement system manager has received written notice by or on behalf of some other person that such person claims to be entitled to such payment or refund.
