SEC. 36-44. CITY MAY ORDER AUDIT OF BOOKS AND RECORDS. The city council may have the books and records of the person rendering the statement required in Section 36-43 examined by a bookkeeper employed by the city to ascertain whether such statement is accurate, but nothing in this article prevents the city from ascertaining the facts by any other method.
