Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-191 Changing lanes.

§ 32-191. - Changing lanes. (a) Whenever any roadway has been divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic, in addition to all other rules consistent herewith a vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety and given a signal, not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the vehicle, of the driver's intention to change lanes. (b) Where streets or roadways do not have marked traffic lanes, vehicles shall nevertheless keep in line or follow a straight course as nearly as practical and shall not weave in and out or turn from side to side unnecessarily. Vehicles shall move to the right or left only as necessary in slowing or stopping adjacent to the curb, in passing slow moving vehicles or making a proper approach for a turn, and this only after the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made safely and given a signal, not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the vehicle, of the driver's intention to change lanes. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-192 Driving on right side of roadway.

§ 32-192. - Driving on right side of roadway. (a) Upon all roadways of sufficient width a vehicle shall be driven to the right of the center of the roadway, except as follows: (1) when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing such movement; (2) when the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair; (3) upon a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic under the rules applicable thereon; (4) Upon a roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic, all slow-moving vehicles shall be driven as closely as possible to the right curb of the street or roadway except when overtaking and passing other vehicles as provided herein. Official signs may be erected directing slow-moving traffic to use a designated lane or designating those lanes to be used by traffic moving in a particular direction regardless of the center of the roadway and drivers of vehicles shall obey the direction of such signs. (b) All vehicles shall keep to the right roadway on all streets or highways which are divided into two roadways. (c) At the intersection of streets or highways with a railroad right-of-way, all vehicles shall keep to the right of the center of the street or highway. (Code 1970, § 34-48; Code 1980, § 32-192)

Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-193 Passing vehicles proceeding in opposite directions.

§ 32-193. - Passing vehicles proceeding in opposite directions. Drivers of vehicles proceeding in opposite directions shall pass each other to the right, and upon roadways having a width for not more than one line of traffic in each direction each driver shall give to the other at least ½ the main-traveled portion of the roadway as nearly as possible. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-194 Driving on divided highways.

§ 32-194. - Driving on divided highways. Whenever any highway has been divided into two or more roadways by leaving an intervening space or by a physical barrier or clearly indicated dividing section so constructed as to impede vehicular traffic, every vehicle shall be driven only upon the righthand roadway unless directed or permitted to use another roadway by official traffic control devices or Police Officers. No vehicle shall be driven over, across, or within any such dividing space, barrier or section, except through an opening in such physical barrier or dividing section or space or at a crossover or intersection established by public authority. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-195 One-way roadways and rotary traffic islands.

§ 32-195. - One-way roadways and rotary traffic islands. (a) Upon a roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic a vehicle shall be driven only in the direction designated. (b) A vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island shall be driven only to the right of such island. (Code 1970, § 34-51; Code 1980, § 32-195)

Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-196 No passing zones.

§ 32-196. - No passing zones. (a) The Commission within the limitations prescribed by this Code is hereby authorized to determine those portions of any highway where overtaking and passing would be especially hazardous, and may, by appropriate signs or markings on the roadway, indicate the beginning and end of such zones. In making such a determination the Commission shall consider the public health, safety and welfare. (b) When such signs or markings are in place and clearly visible to an ordinarily observant person, every driver shall obey the directions thereof. (c) The Director shall prepare and maintain a schedule of those locations designated as no passing zones. The schedule shall be designated as "SCHEDULE XIV. No Passing Zones." The original of Schedule XIV shall be kept in the office of the City Clerk as a public record. (Code 1970, §§ 34-53, 34-54; Code 1980, § 32-196)

Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-197 Following too closely.

§ 32-197. - Following too closely. The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway. (Code 1970, § 34-52; Code 1980, § 32-197)

Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-198 Overtaking a vehicle on the left.

§ 32-198. - Overtaking a vehicle on the left. The following rules shall govern the overtaking and passing of vehicles proceeding in the same direction, subject to those limitations, exceptions and special rules provided in this chapter: (1) the driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive to the right side of the street or roadway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle. (2) except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted, the driver of an overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle on audible signal and shall not increase the speed of his vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle. (3) every driver who intends to pass another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, which requires moving his vehicle from one lane to another, shall first see that such movement can be made with safety and shall proceed to pass only after giving a proper signal by hand or mechanical device. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-199 Limitations on overtaking on left.

§ 32-199. - Limitations on overtaking on left. (a) No vehicle shall be driven to the left side of the center of the street or roadway in overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction unless such left side is clearly visible and is free of oncoming traffic for a sufficient distance ahead to permit such overtaking and passing to be completed without interfering with the safe operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle overtaken. (b) No vehicle at any time shall be driven to the left side of the roadway under the following conditions: (1) when approaching the crest of a grade, or upon a curb in the street or highway where the driver's view along the street or highway is obstructed. (2) when approaching within 100 feet of any bridge, viaduct or tunnel or when approaching within 100 feet of or traversing any intersection or railroad grade crossing. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-200 Overtaking on right.

§ 32-200. - Overtaking on right. (a) The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass upon the right of another vehicle which is making or about to make a left turn. (b) The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another vehicle either upon the left or upon the right of a street or roadway with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for four or more lanes of moving traffic when such movement can be made safely. (c) No person shall drive off the pavement or upon the shoulder of the street or roadway in overtaking or passing on the right, except in the event of an emergency. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-201 Overtaking and passing in school zones.

§ 32-201. - Overtaking and passing in school zones. (a) Passing prohibited during certain hours. No driver of a vehicle shall pass any other vehicle which is in motion and being driven in the same direction in any school zone between the times designated in Section 32-171 of this chapter on all days when schools are in session. (b) Passing on multiple-lane streets. Wherever a school zone is located on a multiple-lane street which is divided into three or more clearly marked lanes for traffic where the right half of the roadway has been divided into two or more lanes, or on one-way streets, vehicles shall be allowed to pass slower-moving vehicles being driven in the same direction where passing does not involve a change of lane movement. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-202 Overtaking and passing school bus.

§ 32-202. - Overtaking and passing school bus. (a) The driver of a vehicle upon any street, roadway or highway, upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped on or adjacent to the street, roadway or highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging any schoolchildren and other occupants, shall stop the vehicle immediately before passing the school bus when there is a visual signal in operation on the school bus as specified in Section 32-523. The driver shall not proceed until the loading signals are deactivated and shall then proceed past such school bus at a speed which is reasonable and with due caution for the safety of such children and other occupants. (b) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus which is on a different roadway or when upon a controlled access highway and the school bus is stopped in a loading zone which is a part of or adjacent to such highway and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 32-203 Overtaking and passing church bus.

§ 32-203. - Overtaking and passing church bus. (a) A church bus is a vehicle operated by a nonprofit religious organization which transports persons, including school-age children, to and from religious services. (b) The driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking a church bus that is stopped to take on or discharge passengers, and on which the red loading signals are in operation, is to stop his vehicle before it reaches the church bus and not proceed until the loading signals are deactivated and then proceed past such bus at a speed which is reasonable and with due caution for the safety of such occupants. (c) Every church bus used for the transportation of persons to and from religious services shall bear upon the front and rear thereof plainly visible signs containing the words "CHURCH BUS" in letters not less than eight inches in height and, in addition, may be equipped with visual signals meeting the requirements of Section 32-523, which shall be actuated by the driver of said church bus whenever, but only whenever, such vehicle is stopped on the highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging passengers. (d) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a church bus which is on a different roadway or when upon a controlled access highway and the church bus is stopped in a loading zone which is a part of or adjacent to such highway and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway.
