Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 50-241 Permit required to drill flagstaff holes.

§ 50-241. - Permit required to drill flagstaff holes. No person shall drill any hole in the streets or sidewalks as a socket for flagstaffs or other purposes, or erect any flag or flagstaff upon the streets or sidewalks, unless he submits an application to the director to do so, secures a permit therefor, and complies with the provisions of this article. The application shall indicate the location of the proposed flagstaff hole and that the hole shall be constructed according to the requirements of this article. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 50-242 Specifications for flagstaff holes.

§ 50-242. - Specifications for flagstaff holes. No hole of a flag socket shall be drilled, dug or otherwise placed in the sidewalks for the erection of flags without complying with the following specifications and requirements: (1) holes or sockets when completed and equipped shall not exceed two inches in diameter and shall not be less than eight inches nor more than 12 inches in depth; (2) holes or sockets shall be aligned as nearly as practicable with each other and shall be 15 inches from the face of the curb; (3) holes or sockets shall be located at intervals no less than 25 feet apart and shall be no less than five feet from any fire hydrant, telephone, telegraph pole or parking meter; (4) flagstaff holes shall be fitted with metal pipes or lining threaded at the top; (5) when flag sockets are not in use for displaying flags, they shall be closed with a metal cap screwed on the metal lining, flush with the top of the sidewalk. Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 50-243 Flagstaff specifications.

§ 50-243. - Flagstaff specifications. No flagstaff shall be erected upon City streets unless it shall be: (1) cylindrical, straight and made of wood or metal; (2) no less than 12 feet in length; (3) finished in clear or blue lacquer similar to the blue in the American flag; (4) capped on the top with a two-inch-diameter ball; (5) set or erected in the manner as set forth in Section 50-242. (Code 1970, § 32-72; Code 1980, § 50-243)

Oklahoma City Municipal Code § 50-244 Display of flags on sidewalks.

§ 50-244. - Display of flags on sidewalks. (a) The American flag shall not be displayed upon the sidewalks unless it complies with Subsection (b) and is anchored as required under Subsection (c). (b) The American flag shall: (1) be three feet in width and five feet in length; (2) be composed of heavy weight cotton and so colored as not to fade; (3) contain metal eyelets for anchoring it to a staff by means of a cord or rope. (c) No flag shall be displayed on the sidewalks unless it is anchored to the highest point on a flagstaff constructed and set as required under Section 50-242. Flags may be flown at half mast on appropriate occasions designated by the City Council or Mayor. (Code 1970, §§ 32-73, 32-74; Code 1980, § 50-244)
