Sec. 279-224. - Budget and salaries; provision for payment of expenses. (a) The chief, with the approval of the mayor, shall recommend the number and salary of the members of the department, but the city-county council shall finally determine the budget and salaries of the department. (b) The consolidated city and the police special service district may levy property taxes as provided by law to provide for the payment of the expenses for the operation of the department.
