Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.010 Established—Appointments and status generally.

2.32.010 - Established—Appointments and status generally. (A) A Police Reserve Corps (hereinafter "the Corps") is created and established as an organization. The Corps shall be composed of persons who are appointed and sworn in by the Sheriff or his designee. (B) Members shall be volunteer workers only and shall not be or be deemed to be employees of the City or of the Metropolitan Police Department for any purpose other than for the purposes of Section 2.32.090 and shall serve gratuitously as such. 2.32.020 - Qualifications—Training. (A) The Sheriff shall establish the requirements to be met by persons to qualify to become members of the Corps. Such requirements shall include but need not be limited to physical, mental, aptitude and personality requirements. The Sheriff shall also establish inventory and character standards, and shall provide for the mandatory training of such persons in all fields of police work. (B) It shall be the duty of the Sheriff to provide such training for such persons and also any further training for members which he may deem to be necessary. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.030 Appointment—Permitted when—Discretion of Sheriff.

2.32.030 - Appointment—Permitted when—Discretion of Sheriff. Whenever a person has met all the requirements to qualify to become a member, he may be appointed and sworn in as a member by the Sheriff or his designee. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.040 Termination—Resignation.

2.32.040 - Termination—Resignation. (A) The Sheriff, with or without cause therefor, may terminate any member at any time and any member may resign as such at any time by written notification thereof to the Sheriff. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.060 Power of Sheriff—Rules and regulations—Assignments.

2.32.060 - Power of Sheriff—Rules and regulations—Assignments. (A) The Sheriff, subject to the restrictions and limitations contained in this Chapter, shall have complete authority and control over the Corps and its members and may delegate the exercise thereof, in whole or in part, to any of his subordinates. (B) The Sheriff or his designee may establish rules and regulations governing the Corps and its members, provide for the maintenance of discipline and assign each member to perform police duties with a member of the Metropolitan Police Department (hereinafter a "regular Police Officer") in traffic control, in crowd control or in specialized assignments. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.070 Minimum service—Compensation.

2.32.070 - Minimum service—Compensation. In order to retain his appointment, each member of the Corps shall serve as such for at least eight hours each calendar month. (Ord. 2229 § 1 (part), 1981: Ord. 1510 § 4 (part), 1971: prior code § 3-6-4 (part))

Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.080 Peace officer status.

2.32.080 - Peace officer status. Each member, while serving as such, shall have the status of a peace officer and shall have the same power and authority, except to the extent that such authority is restricted or limited by the Sheriff, as does a regular Police Officer while he is serving as such. However, each member, at all times other than while serving as such: (A) Shall not have the status of a peace officer; (B) Shall not have any power, authority or duties of a Police Officer or a peace officer; and (C) Shall not represent, identify or hold himself out to be a Police Officer or a peace officer. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.090 City employee status.

2.32.090 - City employee status. For purposes of liability insurance and state industrial insurance coverage, and for such purposes only, each member of the Corps shall be an employee of the City only while he is receiving training required to qualify him to become a member of the Corps, while he is serving any assigned shift as a member of the Corps or while he is receiving further police training. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.100 Clothing and identification—Issuance.

2.32.100 - Clothing and identification—Issuance. (A) Each member of the Corps shall, at the expense of the City, be supplied the same clothing items that are supplied to a regular Police Officer, all of which, except the badge and shoulder patch, shall be identical to those issued to a regular Police Officer. The badge and shoulder patch shall have inscribed thereon the words "RESERVE POLICE OFFICER." Each member shall be issued an identification card which shall show his membership in the Corps. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.110 Clothing and identification—Use—Firearm.

2.32.110 - Clothing and identification—Use—Firearm. (A) Except as otherwise hereinafter provided, each member, while serving as such, shall wear, display or carry, as the case may be, every item issued to him as a member. However, a member shall not carry any firearm unless he has qualified for and received a gun permit signed by the Sheriff. (B) It is unlawful for any member of the Corps, at any time other than while actually serving as such, to wear, display or carry, as the case may be, any item issued to him unless he does so in such a manner that the item, if it were to be seen by another person, could not be identified by such other person as being one issued to a regular Police Officer or to a member of the Corps. Las Vegas Municipal Code § 2.32.120 Impersonation of member.

2.32.120 - Impersonation of member. It is a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in the City Jail for not to exceed six months or by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars, or any combination of such imprisonment and fine, for any person who is not a member of the Corps to: (A) Wear, display or carry, as the case may be, without authorization therefor, any items issued to any member of the Corps; or (B) Represent, identify or hold himself out, in any manner whatsoever, to be a member of the Corps or to have any connection with the Corps.
