(b) Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, the motorman of every streetcar, or operator of any other public conveyance, shall immediately stop the car or vehicle clear of any intersection and keep it in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.
(c) This section shall not operate to relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive and control such vehicle, so far as is reasonably possible consistent with his duties, with due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway.
(d) Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle proceeding in either direction on a one-way street under the conditions stated in subsection (a), the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall similarly and immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to the edge or curb of the highway nearest to the side on which he is driving, whether right or left, and clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer; provided, however, he shall not so stop where doing so would leave a free lane less than ten (10) feet wide, if it is possible to move forward and avoid such condition.
