Sec. 42-17. - Appointment of detectives, technicians and dispatchers. The chief of police may, from time to time, assign patrolmen 1st grade and policewomen 1st grade to perform the duties of detectives, technicians or dispatchers, each of whom shall perform such duties so long as their services are satisfactory to the chief of police and the latter shall see fit to continue such assignment.
