4073. Diabetes treatment (a) A health insurance plan shall provide coverage for the equipment, supplies, and outpatient self-management training and education, including medical nutrition therapy, for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes, insulin-using diabetes, gestational diabetes, and noninsulin-using diabetes if prescribed by a health care professional. (b) Diabetes outpatient self-management training and education required to be covered by this section shall be provided by a certified, registered, or licensed health care professional with specialized training in the education and management of diabetes. Recodified and amended 2025, No. 11, § 2, eff. September 1, 2025.
