§ 20-163. - Persons required to be licensed; exceptions; compliance with regulations.
(a) Conformity with City regulations. All licensees engaged in the sale of automatic fire detection system and auxiliary fire alarm system equipment, who also install the equipment, shall conform to all City regulations governing the installation. In the event a licensed seller subcontracts the installation to another, any subcontractor that he/she hires to do the installation does not need a license as provided in this division, provided the seller has a license. The subcontractor, however, shall be licensed as an electrical contractor by the City.
(b) Equipment maintenance to conform to regulations. Any licensee engaged in the sale or installation of equipment who also undertakes to maintain the equipment shall conform to all City regulations governing the maintenance of such equipment. In the event the maintenance is subcontracted to another, any person that the seller, installer or home operator contracts or hires to maintain the equipment need not be licensed as required in this article provided the person hiring the subcontractor is licensed.
(c) Casual maintenance prohibited without license. Any person who undertakes to maintain any automatic fire detection system or auxiliary fire alarm system equipment who did not sell or install that equipment, and who is not maintaining the equipment under hire by a person who is licensed under this article, shall be required to be licensed under the terms of this article the same as the person who sold and installed the equipment.
