San José Municipal Code § 20.200.250
in effect"Convalescent hospital" is an establishment where for a minimum of forty hours per week, inpatient nursing care including bed care is provided and where other medical care may be provided for persons who are ill, injured, or infirm (physically or mentally), but excluding/persons with communicable disease. No outpatient care shall be provided. (Ord. 26248.)
